Point-to-Point Wireless

Wireless bridges that connect buildings, yards, and remote sites where trenching fiber costs more than the building — engineered with an actual path survey.

The problem

Wyoming geography makes point-to-point wireless less of a workaround and more of a default. Sites are far apart, fiber builds are quoted in six figures, and carrier lead times run months.

The failure mode is almost always the same: a link installed without a path survey works fine in October and drops every time it snows, or when a neighboring operator lights up on the same channel.

Point-to-Point Wireless: common questions

How far can a point-to-point wireless link reach?

With clear line of sight, unlicensed 5 GHz links reliably run 5–15 miles, and licensed microwave considerably further. Distance is rarely the limit — obstructions, terrain, and interference are. That's what the path survey determines.

Will weather affect the link?

Properly engineered links include fade margin for rain and snow. Higher frequencies such as 60 GHz are more weather-sensitive and are best for short hops. We size the link budget for worst-case regional conditions, not fair-weather throughput.

Is wireless fast enough to replace fiber?

For most business traffic, yes. Modern links deliver several hundred Mbps to multiple Gbps. The real trade-off is not speed but shared spectrum and weather margin, which good engineering accounts for.
