The problem
VDI has a reputation problem, and it's earned: most bad deployments were undersized. Storage IOPS and memory get specified against an average user, then everyone logs in at 7 AM simultaneously and the whole thing crawls.
Done properly, it solves problems nothing else does well — shift workers sharing machines, contractors who need access without a company laptop, and field sites where you'd rather no data ever sat on the endpoint.

VDI: common questions
Is VDI cheaper than giving everyone a laptop?
Rarely on hardware cost alone. It wins on management overhead, security, and endpoint lifecycle — one golden image instead of two hundred individually patched machines, and no company data sitting on a laptop left in a truck. We model it both ways before recommending it.
Will it be slow?
Only if it's undersized, which is the usual cause. The variables that matter are storage IOPS under concurrent login, memory per user, and network latency to the session host. We size against your actual concurrency, and we'd rather tell you VDI is the wrong fit than deliver a deployment people work around.
Does it work over a poor internet connection?
Modern display protocols tolerate latency better than they used to, but VDI over a marginal link is still a bad experience. For remote Wyoming sites we look hard at the connection first — sometimes the right answer is fixing connectivity before considering VDI at all.
